On Monday, August 5, 2024, His Holiness Pope Francis appointed then Bishop of Providence Richard G. Henning, D.D., S.T.D. as Archbishop of Boston, the seventh individual to be appointed to the position since Archbishop John Joseph Williams in 1875.
