April 27, 2012 - One Hundred Twenty Young People And Their Leaders To Be Honored At Annual One Award

One hundred twenty youth, young adults, and leaders in youth and young adult ministry, will be honored at the Annual Awards Banquet sponsored by the Office for the New Evangelization of Youth and Young Adults (ONE).  These recipients represent forty-six parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of Boston.

The Awards Banquet has its origin in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony.  Over the years, as the offices serving youth and young adults were expanded, the Awards Banquet grew in order to recognize young people of the Archdiocese and their leaders who are living witnesses of Christ and making extraordinary contributions in their respective communities. 

The scope of ONE’s mission to young people is reflected in the diversity of awards being offered:  CYO, Catholic Scouting, Catholic Schools, Middle School Youth, High School Youth, Young Adults, Youth Ministers, Adults who serve them, including Religious Sisters, Brothers and Priests.

Award recipients are nominated by their parish or school and approved by their pastor or head of community.  Nominations are then discussed and evaluated by a selection committee who then select the award recipients.

This year’s banquet will be held at Lombardo’s in Randolph on May 2, 2012 at 6:30pm.  The evening begins with grace and a short welcoming, followed by dinner and the award presentation.

The St. Dominic Savio Award is an Archdiocesan award presented to Middle School youth (6th-8th grade) who witness to their faith in the Lord Jesus by their commitment to serving the needs of their parish and/or school. Following the example of St. Dominic Savio, these young people live lives informed by Christian values and stand out among their peers as leaders.

The St. Timothy Award is the highest national recognition from the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry for a diocese to confer to a junior or senior high school youth who lives as a disciple of Christ, sets a positive  example for other youth and adults, witnesses to their faith by exhibiting Catholic morals and integrity, demonstrates Gospel values through service to others, and exhibits Christian leadership in extraordinary ways in their parish, school, and community settings.

The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award is an Archdiocesan Leadership award presented to lay people or religious brothers/sisters who exemplify the leadership qualities of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Youth Scouting Awards

The Pillars Of Faith Award is given to scouts who have completed all four of the Catholic Religious Emblems. These emblems are like Pillars of Faith supporting a Scout’s development and appreciation of her/his Catholic Faith. This award is the highest religious recognition that a Scout can achieve while on the scouting trail. Girl Scouts receive the Pillars of Faith - Service to God pin and Boy Scouts receive the Pillars of Faith - Duty to God pin.

The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Medal recognizes the meritorious contributions of adults who serve Catholic youth through Girl Scouts. This medal affirms the work of those who help youth develop their spiritual lives within the context of scouting.

Cyo Athletics Awards

The St. Sebastian Award is an Archdiocesan award given to a man or women who has served the young in Athletics for a minimum of 5 years. The candidate must exhibit Christian values on the playing field and in daily life.

The Cyo Hall Of Fame Award is an Archdiocesan award for Coaches/Athletic Directors who have ministered to the youth for more than 10 years and have provided a valuable life experience for young athletes.  These Coaches/Athletic Directors intentionally model and promote Christian values by teaching young people how to compete, cooperate, and develop a positive self-image and healthy relationships through participation in sports.

The Christifidelis Laici Award is a Parish Service award in memory of Brian Cody. This award is given to young adults who consistently promote, support and welcome others in parish young adult ministry. It honors the service of individuals who demonstrate strong personal faith and compassion, who embrace the mission and vision of young adult ministry, and who have been outstanding models of Christ’s faithful people.

The Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Award is an Archdiocesan Leadership award given to young adults and those who serve them. These young adults manifest the heroic virtues of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.  These individuals demonstrate a deep personal and communal faith that leads to a boldness, depth, charity, longevity, and joy that makes them a powerful witness of Christ to others reaching far beyond their parish and school.

The St. Paul The Apostle Award is given to an adult who mentors young adults in the Catholic faith while demonstrating the love of Christ with a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith. This individual is a humble teacher and witness, tirelessly preaching the Gospel through words and actions. He/She demonstrates a holy boldness in proclaiming the Word and joyfully embracing the mission of evangelization while also challenging and encouraging young adults on their journey of holiness.

The Blessed John Paul II Award is given to a priest in recognition of his outstanding commitment, dedication and service to young adults. These qualities are best exemplified in the life of Blessed Pope John Paul II.

The “ONE” Award

The Norm Plante Award is given in honor of Norm, who was a Youth Minister from St. Pius V Parish in Lynn, to adults who provide valuable service to the ONE Team in order for us to achieve our mission.  Norm was known for his big smile, deep faith, and a great love for ministry to youth. Norm’s vision for youth ministry was based on a relational model of evangelization and discipleship which is the model for ONE. Norm believed in the initiatives of the Archdiocese to mentor young people in the faith and he generously supported these ministries, by giving of his time and talent, to help them to be innovative and effective.
