Caring for the caregiver: How do we support those who care for the seriously ill?

On Saturday, April 14, 2018 the Archdiocese of Boston’s Initiative for Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning will host the 3rd Annual Palliative Care Colloquium: Caring for the caregiver: How do we support those who care for the seriously ill?

The program will take place at the Pastoral Center, 66 Brooks Dr, Braintree, MA from 8am to 1pm.

Guest speakers include Guy Maytal, MD, Susan Rowlett, LICSW, MC Sullivan, RN, MTS, JD and Patricia Coffey, LICSW. They will guide attendees through the challenging role of the caregiver in response to the needs of the seriously ill.

The Initiative on Palliative Care and Advanced Care Planning, founded in 2015, has the goal of educating and informing people, parishes, and organizations within the archdiocese and beyond. Palliative Care is promoted by the Archdiocese as the best model of whole person care that should become available everywhere and accessible to everyone. It is also seen by the Archdiocese and others as a way to combat the growing movement advancing physician-assisted suicide as an answer to patient suffering.

Sponsored by the Archdiocese of Boston and led by MC Sullivan, head of the Archdiocese's Initiative on Palliative Care and Advanced Care Planning, the colloquium features speakers well-known in their work in palliative care, in which an interdisciplinary team comes together to treat the whole patient and accompany the seriously ill and their families through the course of their illness.
