April 30, 2020 - Join Cardinal Sean in a Prayer for the Consecration of the US to the Blessed Virgin

Responding to the global pandemic, on Friday, May 1st, at 3:00 pm, the bishops of the United States will unite in a prayer of consecration to the care of the Blessed Mother, which will be offered for the entire country.  The prayer of consecration incorporates language used in consecrations of Popes Pius XII, John Paul II, and Francis, and also from prayers from Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary. U.S. bishops will join the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops in renewing the consecrations of the two nations to the care of our Blessed Mother.

Catholic TV will air a brief liturgy at 3:00 pm by the Most Reverend José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles, and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The Archdiocese of Boston is making available the renewal of consecration led by Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, OFM Cap, Archbishop of Boston. All are invited to join the Cardinal in prayer on May 1st. Through a collective dedication or entrustment of a nation to Mary, an act of reconsecration is meant to be a reminder to the faithful of the Blessed Mother’s witness to the Gospel and to ask for her effective intercession before her Son on behalf of those in need. 

The opening prayer for the liturgy begins with, “When our Risen Lord appeared to the Disciples on Easter Sunday, He said Peace Be with You. We can be confident that He desires the same peace for all of the members of His body, the Church and all of the people of the entire world. In this difficult time, we turn to the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church and Queen of Peace to ask that she intercedes with her son for all those who are affected in any way by this pandemic. As we renew the consecration of our country and ourselves through the Mother of God, we implore her maternal care for her children.”
