August 27, 2013 - Mary E. Moran Appointed Temporary Administrator for Catholic Schools in the Archdi

Braintree, MA, August 27, 2013 – The Archdiocese of Boston announced today the appointment of Mary E. Moran as Temporary Administrator for the Catholic Schools Office (CSO).  Ms. Moran succeeds Dr. Mary Grassa O’Neill who recently concluded her service to the Archdiocese.

Most Reverend Robert P. Deeley, J.C.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Boston, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia said, “On behalf of Cardinal Seán, I am grateful that Mary Moran has accepted the call to serve as Temporary Administrator. Mary has spent virtually her entire career committed to Catholic education.  During this transition, we are blessed to have a leader who clearly articulates the essential goals and mission of Catholic education. As we begin this new academic year, I also want to thank the CSO office for their excellent work assisting our pastors, principals and school staff.” 

Ms. Moran said, “It is an honor to have been asked to serve the Archdiocese as the temporary administrator in the Catholic School Office. My primary goal during this transition period is to work collaboratively with the CSO team, Archdiocesan personnel, critical friends and partners, as well as our priests, parish and school leaders, to advance the mission of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Boston and to invite and engage others to work with us on behalf of families and students.  Ultimately, our goal in Catholic schools is to model the life and teachings of Jesus Christ in schools that are communities of faith, belonging, learning, challenge, and service.” 

Before joining the CSO for the Archdiocese of Boston in 2012 as special projects manager, Ms. Moran served six years (2006-2012) as Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Manchester.  Previously she was principal at St. Augustine School in North Andover, MA (1995-2006) and St. Joseph School in Lewiston, ME (1986-1995).   She taught at St. Mary School in Southbridge, MA (1981-1986) and St. Joseph School in Lewiston, ME (1972-1981).  She began her career in 1971 with the Portland Public Schools (ME).  Ms. Moran holds a Certificate of Advanced Educational Studies, Boston College (2009), M.Ed., Educational Leadership, Boston College (1991), BA, Sociology, University of Southern Maine (1971).

She recognized the dedicated and talented staff of the CSO and thanked Dr. Grassa O’Neill for her strong and visionary leadership over the past five years.

A process will be implemented for the selection of a new Secretary for Education/Superintendent.
