John Dunn, director of the BOSTON BOY CHOIR (55 boys, grades 5-8, from the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School), conducts festive, tender and traditional carols in a joyous holiday program featuring works by Marier, Biery, Rutter, Willcocks, Woodman, Tchaikovsky, Haas and others. The concert also includes music for Handbell Choir (Jennifer Lester, director), and Recorder Consort (Sheila Beardslee, director). The audience is invited to join the choristers to sing traditional favorites with the choir and organ. The BOSTON BOY CHOIR's newest CD, "The Holly and The Ivy," will be available at the concert.
The BOSTON BOY CHOIR has sung and recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall and at Tanglewood, and in holiday programs with the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. The Choir has received recognition in the U.S., Canada and Europe through its tours and performances in Rome, Washington DC, Quebec, and Chicago. The BOSTON BOY CHOIR has recorded five CDs of sacred and seasonal music on the BACS Recordings label.
Director JOHN DUNN has served for 25 years as music director and headmaster of the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School, home of the Boston Boy Choir. He holds degrees from Harvard College and Boston University, and Fellow and Choirmaster Diplomas of the American Guild of Organists. Dunn has directed numerous workshops for young singers, given many organ recitals in Boston and beyond, and is the author of over 30 hymn texts, many of which are included in hymn collections in this country and abroad.
