The Cardinal will travel to Haiti, March 1-3, 2010 to see firsthand the recovery efforts and to bring the love and concern of the people of Boston to their brothers and sisters in need. Archbishop José H. Gomez of San Antonio, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America, has created a Haiti Advisory Group to help assess the impact on the local Church. Archbishop Gomez, who will chair the advisory group, will be joined by Cardinal Seán O’Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Boston, Bishop Thomas Wenski of Orlando, and Bishop Guy Sansaricq, Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn and the only Haitian-American bishop in the United States.
The Archdiocese of Boston also announced today that Photojournalist George Martell, from the Archdiocese, will accompany Cardinal Seán O’Malley and the delegation to Haiti next.
George will be posting photographs to the Archdiocese’s Facebook page and Flickr sites. The sites are: http://www.facebook.com/BostonCatholic and http://www.flickr.com/photos/bostoncatholic.
