Braintree, MA (January 13, 2014) – Cardinal Seán O’Malley today announced the appointment of the pastors for the twenty-one Phase Two collaboratives of  Disciples in Mission – A Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Boston.  The Archdiocese has now established 33 collaboratives that include 72 parishes.

Cardinal Seán said, “We are blessed by the dedication of the priests, parishioners and the deacons and religious who are working together to strengthen our parishes. I am grateful for the generosity of these pastors as they accept the call to lead the new collaboratives, advancing the mission of evangelization in the Archdiocese of Boston.”

Bishop Robert P. Deeley, Vicar General and Moderator of Curia, said, “The priests, deacons, religious, and parish staffs, as well as the staff of the Pastoral Planning Office and Clergy Personnel, are to be commended for their efforts in advancing the process of implementing Disciples in Mission.  We ask God to continue to bless our pastoral planning efforts and, in a particular way, the parishes of these new collaboratives.”

Fr. Paul Soper, Director of Pastoral Planning, said, “As we begin the next phase of Disciples in Mission, we are reminded of the many acts of selfless dedication the fine priests of the Archdiocese have offered in participating in this initiative.  At the core of the entire plan is evangelization.  Christ is our beacon along that road and in working together we will achieve the goals set out when we began this exciting path in the life of the Archdiocese and most notably in our parishes.”    

Disciples in Mission

The Pastoral Plan groups the parishes of the Archdiocese into approximately 135 collaboratives.  Each parish maintains its own identity in the collaboratives.  Each parish retains its buildings, its canonical rights, its financial assets and obligations. The collaborative will have one Pastor who will work with one Pastoral Team and one Parish Pastoral Council, although since each Parish maintains its financial independence, each Parish will have its own Parish Finance Council.”  Together they will develop a pastoral plan for their local collaborative, focused on serving the needs of the parishes in their local collaborative and advancing the mission of the New Evangelization.  The formation of the parish collaboratives will be phased in, with appropriate flexibility, over a period of five years.  Pastors, pastoral teams, and councils of each parish collaborative will participate in extensive theological and practical training for the New Evangelization.
