May 20, 2011 - Cardinal to Ordain Six Priests

(Braintree, MA) … Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley will ordain six men to the Priesthood this Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street, Boston.  The Ordination Mass begins at 9:00 a.m.

Cardinal Seán said, “The ordination of these six men to the Priesthood is a moment of great joy for our Archdiocese.  Through the gift of the priestly vocation the Church can continue to carry on the saving ministry of Jesus Christ. We are blessed by the commitment and faithful devotion of our priests here in the Archdiocese of Boston.”

John Anthony D’Arpino
One of the two sons of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Woburn to be ordained this year, Father D’Arpino was born on Sept. 30, 1983, one of the three children of Anthony and Nadine (Krull) D’Arpino. He attended elementary school at St. Pius Fifth, Lynn, and was graduated from Boston College High School and St. Anselm College, Manchester, N.H.

He completed his seminary studies at St. John’s, Brighton, and served his deacon internship year at St. Patrick Parish, Natick. Father D’Arpino will celebrate his First Mass at St. Patrick, Natick, on May 22 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Peter Fournier of the Fall River diocese as the homilist.

Michael Joseph Farrell
One of the two sons of Charon (Smith) Farrell and the late Neal Farrell, he is the other son of St. Charles, Woburn, to be ordained to the priesthood this year. Born on May 28, 1974, he attended both St. Catherine of Siena, Charlestown, and St. Edward, Brockton, elementary schools and is an alumnus of Coyle and Cassidy High School in Taunton.

He received his A.B. from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary College in Wynnewood, Penn., and completed his seminary studies at St. John’s, Brighton. Before he entered the seminary he had a variety of experience in several local Internet and wireless service companies, which made him the “natural’ Network Administrator of the seminary system during his theological studies.

Father Farrell will celebrate his First Mass at St. Charles Borromeo, Woburn, on May 22 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Patrick Kelly, a senior priest of the archdiocese, serving as the homilist.

Seán Patrick Hurley, FPO
One of the four children of John and Mary (McGuigan) Hurley, Father Hurley was born on Oct. 20, 1979. His home parish is St. Catherine of Siena, Little Compton, R.I. Raised in that Providence suburb, there he attended Wilbur McMahon Elementary School and Bishop Connolly High School in Fall River. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Latin American Campus of Ave Maria University in San Marcos, Nicaragua.

Father Hurley’s theological studies were completed at St. John’s, Brighton. He is being ordained for the archdiocese, but will be a member of the Franciscans of Primitive Observance and will serve in an assignment of that community. Father Hurley served a deacon internship at St. Patrick Parish, Roxbury. He will celebrate his First Mass at St. Catherine of Siena, Little Compton, R.I., on May 22 at Noon with Father Peter Giroux, FPO as the homilist.

Andrew Taegon Kwang Lee
Born on May 26, 1976, Fr. Lee is one of the two sons of Kyung Bai and Hyang Won Lee and a son of St. Joseph Parish in Somerville. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

He completed his seminary studies at St. John’s in Brighton and served his deacon assignment at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Beverly.

Father Lee will celebrate his First Mass at St. Joseph Church in Somerville on May 22 at 11:00 a.m.

Mark William Murphy
One of the three sons of Raymond and Cheryl (Lancaster) Murphy, Father Murphy was born on March 7, 1985, and raised in St. Malachy Parish, Burlington. He attended Fox Hill Elementary and Burlington High Schools, both in Burlington.

He is an alumnus of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary College in Philadelphia and of St. John’s Seminary, Brighton. He has served his deacon internship at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Bridgewater.

Father Murphy will celebrate his First Mass on May 22 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater, with Father Casey Beaumier, SJ, a spiritual director at St. John’s Seminary, as homilist.

Carlos David Suarez
The only child of Juan and Carmen (Pulido) Suarez, Father Suarez was born on Sept. 7, 1981. He was raised in East Boston’s St. Joseph-St. Lazarus Parish. He attended the Manassah Bradley Elementary School there, and the Boston Latin School.

He obtained his undergraduate degree at Boston University and worked as a case manager in Central Boston Elder Services before entering St. John’s Seminary, Brighton, where he completed his theological formation in preparation for ordination.

During his deacon year he has served at Immaculate Conception Parish in Marlborough and will celebrate his First Mass at his home parish in East Boston on May 22 at 2:00 p.m. Father Robert Oliver, BH will be the homilist.
