May 21, 2009 - Cardinal O'Malley to Ordain Six Priests

(Brighton, MA) … Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley will ordain six men to the priesthood this Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street, Boston.  The ordination Mass begins at 9:00 a.m.

Cardinal Seán said, “We are blessed to welcome to the priesthood this group of  holy and faithful men who today begin service to the Archdiocese of Boston as priests.  We see in these newly ordained priests the grace and commitment needed to serve God’s people.  We pray that they are blessed with good health, continued support from their families and friends and the blessings of our Lord as they begin the important work ahead.”

Rev. Frank D. Camp 
One of two alumni of Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Mass., who will be ordained for the Archdiocese, Father Camp attended local schools in his native Pennsylvania: Columbus Elementary and Oliver High School, both in Philadelphia. He graduated from Indiana University, Indiana, Pa., with a B.A. and earned his Masters degree from New York University, N.Y.  He is the only son of the three children of Lee (Butera) Campo and the late William Campo. During his deacon year he has been assigned at St. Bridget Parish, Framingham, Mass.  He will celebrate his first Mass on May 24, at Noon in St. Bridget.

Rev. Shawn P. Carey 
An alumnus of the Clarke School for the Deaf, Northampton, Mass., and Springfield’s Cathedral High School, Father Carey graduated from Providence College, Providence, R.I., and is an alumnus of St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, Calif., which has a special theology program for deaf candidates for ordination. During his final year in California he has been deacon at St. Benedict Parish in San Francisco. He is one of the two sons of John and Kathryn (Landry) Carey. He will celebrate his first Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Newton on May 24 at 2:00 p.m.

Rev. David W. Gunter 
One of the four children of Monica (Long) Gunter and the late Ralph Gunter, Father Gunter is a son of St. Paul Parish, Wellesley. He attended the Pierce School, Brookline and Wellesley High School and graduated from Northeastern University with a B.A. and from Babson College, Wellesley with an M.B.A. He is an alumnus of Blessed John XXIII Seminary and served his deacon internship at Sacred Hearts Parish, Haverhill. He will celebrate his first Mass at his home parish on May 24 at 2:00 p.m.

Rev. Seán M. Maher 
A son of St. Mary Parish in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland, Father Maher is one of the four children - three sons and a daughter - of Margaret (Keane) Maher and the late Patrick. He attended St. Brigid National School, Duagh, Kerry; and St. Michael College, in Listowel, Kerry. He completed university studies at the University of Limerick, and also attended Emmanuel School of Mission, in Rome, and Fairfield University, Fairfield, Conn. An alumnus of St. John Seminary, Brighton he served his deacon year at St. John the Evangelist, Winthrop where he will celebrate his first Mass on May 24 at 1:30 p.m.

Rev. Huy H. Nguyen 
One of eight children of Vinh and Hang (Pham) Nguyen, Father Nguyen comes from St. Ambrose Parish in Dorchester, Mass. He attended local public schools: Jackson Mann Elementary in Allston and Boston Technical School of Math and Science in Roxbury. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and completed his theological studies at St. John Seminary, Brighton. He has been a deacon at St. Mark Parish in Dorchester. Father Nguyen will celebrate his first Mass at St. Ambrose Church, Dorchester on May 24 at 4:00 p.m.

Rev. Israel J. Rodriguez 
One of the four sons and eight daughters of Jose and Concepcion (Diaz) Rodriguez, Father Rodriguez was born in Granada, Spain. He attended Colegio Arzobispo Moscoso, Viznar, Granada and Intituto de Bachillerato Padre Suarez, also in Granada. He graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J. His seminary formation has been at Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary House of Formation and at St. John’s, Brighton. Father Rodriguez has been serving as deacon at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston where he will celebrate his first Mass on May 24 at 11:30 a.m.
