May 24, 2024 - Cardinal O'Malley to Ordain 11 Priests

Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley will ordain eleven men to the Priesthood this Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The Ordination Mass begins at 10:00 a.m. 

Emphasizing the need to be priests who lead God’s people through a life of prayer, Cardinal Seán said, "We must never lose sight of the mysterious presence of God in the poor, in the sick, in the suffering. Prayer helps us to be kinder, gentler, more patient, more trusting. All genuine prayer leads us to love God and love our neighbor. As priests we are called to be Eucharistic men, and the Eucharist is thanksgiving. As priests, we must cultivate the shepherd's heart, filled with compassion and empathy. It is the capacity for empathy that produces great priests after the heart of Christ.”

The second of the four children born to Steven and Bronya (Desmarias) Joanis, he was born in Franklin, MA, on May 6, 1998. He has an older brother, Steve, and a younger sister, Anastasia, and a younger brother Eli.

During his deacon year, he served at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, Waltham, MA.

He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Brendan Church, Bellingham, MA, on May 26, 2024, at Noon. Father Joseph Briody, St. John Seminary Faculty will be the homilist.

One of two newly ordained priests from Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary this year, he was born in Warren, MA, on Nov. 11, 1960. He is the older of the two sons of the late Ronald and Janice (Tenczar) Mongeon. He has one younger brother, Andrew.

During his deacon year, he served at Sacred Heart, Roslindale.

He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at the Chapel of Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary Weston on May 26, 2024.

The fourth child of Stephen and Ana (Garcia) Hanley, he was born in Framingham, MA, on May 17, 1995. He has two older brothers: Stephen Otilio and Brian Matthew; an older sister: Veronica Lucia Hankey-Enciso; and two younger brothers: Michael Joseph and Martin Elijah.

Before entering Redemptoris Mater Seminary, Brookline he studied at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA.

During his deacon internship he served at Immaculate Conception, Marlborough, MA. He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at that parish church on May 25, 2024, at 8:00 PM and he will be the homilist.

Born on July 3, 1984 in Tiko, Cameroon, he is one of the eight children of Angela (Bikelle) Tanyi, and the late Francis. Three of his older siblings two sisters: Magdalene and Api, and an older brother, Sixtus are deceased. He has two living sisters: Etegne and Loveline, and two brothers: Ake and Baiye.

An alumnus of Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary, he has been a deacon at St. John the Baptist Parish, Peabody, MA, and St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Salem, MA. 

He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Anne (French) Church, Salem on May 26, 2024. Father Maurice Agbaw-Ebai of the faculty of St. John Seminary will be the homilist.

The youngest of seven children of José and Blanca (Landaverde) Pineda, he was born in La Reina, Chalatenango, El Salvador on Sept. 10, 1995.

He completed his seminary formation at St. John Seminary and served a deacon year at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Brookline, MA.

He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on May 26, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Brookline at 11:00 AM. Father Rodrigo Martínez will be the homilist.

Born on April 11, 1989, at Valledupar Cesar, Colombia, Giovanni is the eldest of the six children of Roiber and Yadira (Infante Caro) Argote. He has three sisters: Ana Katherine Camargo Infante, Ariana Patricia Argote Diaz, and Maria Catalina Argote Lozano; and two brothers: Felipe Albert Argote Diaz, and Efrain Miguel Argote Diaz. 

An alumnus of Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary, he has served a deacon year at Immaculate Conception Parish, Revere, MA, where he will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on May 25, 2024, at 7:30 PM, and he will be the homilist.

One of the four children of Francis and Karen (Juengst) Harrington, he was born in Beverly on Sept. 8, 1995. He is the third of the four children, Brian and Paul arriving before Matthew, and Kelly arriving after.

His home parish is St. Adelaide, Peabody. His pre seminary education began at St. Mary of the Annunciation, Danvers, and he was homeschooled for middle and high school.

He continued his seminary formation at St. John Brighton and during his deacon year, he served at St. Anthony of Padua, Cohasset, and Saint Mary of the Assumption, Hull.

Father Harrington will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Adelaide Church, Peabody on May 26, 2024, at 3:30 PM. Father Raymond Van De Moortell will be the homilist.

A native of Natick, MA, and a son of St. Linus Parish, there, he was born on Jan. 20, 1992, the second of the two sons of Michael and Karin (Lynch) Letizia. His older brother is Joseph.

An alumnus of St. John Seminary, he has been serving as a deacon at Ascension of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Parish, Maynard, and Sudbury.

He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Linus Church on May 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Father Gerald Souza, pastor of Ascension of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Parish, Maynard and Sudbury will be the homilist.

A native of Vietnam, he and his three siblings were raised in a family community in Vietnam. Before arriving in the United States, he completed elementary and high school and initial seminary formation.

He completed additional seminary formation at Holy Apostles Seminary, Cromwell, Conn. in 2016 and then entered the formation program at St. John Seminary in 2016.

During his deacon year he has served at St. Paul Paish, Cambridge.

He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at Blessed Andrew Phu Yen Church in Medford, MA on May 25, 2024, at 5:30 PM. Most Reverend Mark O’Connell, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, will be the homilist of the Mass.

Father Marcelo Gabriel Ferrari

A native of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, he was born April 16, 1996, the third of the four sons of Bruno Ferrari and Laura Cecilia (Melo) Ferrari. He has two older brothers: Bruno Francisco and Marco Antonio, and a younger brother, Patricio.

An alumnus of St. John Seminary, he has been serving a deacon assignment at All Saints Parish, Haverhill.

He will celebrate two Masses of Thanksgiving: the first on May 26, 2024, at Noon at All Saints Parish, Haverhill, he will be the homilist; and the second, on that same date at 4:00 PM at St. John Seminary Chapel, Brighton, with Father David J. Barnes, pastor of St. Patrick, Stoneham as the homilist.

The only son of the four children of Darryl and Karen (Bergonzi) Wagner, he was born in Hartford, Conn. on July 1, 1991. His siblings are two older sisters: Sarah Hunter and Acacia Tortora, and a younger sister: Shaina.

An alumnus of St. John Seminary, he has been serving as a deacon at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Topsfield, and St. Agnes, Middleton.

He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Mark Church, Dorchester on May 26, 2024, at 10:00 AM, he will also be the homilist of the Mass.
