May 3, 2018 - Sacred Heart School, Roslindale, Raises $1 Million Dollars for Centennial Anniversary

Roslindale, MA – Sacred Heart School is celebrating 100 years of educating elementary scholars from Roslindale and the surrounding areas. Staying true to their mission statement of “we dream big,” they decided to set a major fundraising goal for their anniversary. They organized events throughout the school year culminating with their Dream Big Celebration on April 27, 2018, where they reached their goal of raising one million dollars. 

 

Sacred Heart kicked off their centennial year by hosting the 20th Annual Sacred Heart Golf Tournament on September 15, 2017. They served as co-Grand Marshal of the 2017 Roslindale Day Parade where the theme was education is the door to the future. They also brought their choir to the 33rd Annual Roslindale Tree Lighting this past December. Sacred Heart hosted an International night to celebrate the diversity in their school and An Evening of Motown featuring Soul of Boston. Then, on April 27, their gala at Moseley’s on the Charles brought them to the one-million-dollar goal.

Monica Haldiman, principal of Sacred Heart, detailed how this work was a team effort. “Members of the school, the Board and Sacred Heart Parish, worked together to support reaching this monumental goal. We could not have done this without the generosity of all those who believe in Catholic education,” she stated. Members of the community and alumni worked with the school to make every event successful. On the night of the Dream Big Celebration, many local figures lent their support and opened their checkbooks. Mayor Marty Walsh spoke about his fond childhood memories of participating in the Sacred Heart Show, then donated $25,000 and encouraged others to do the same. Rick and Cathy Roche, longtime supporters and alumni, gave generously. Peter Lynch, president of the Lynch Foundation and frequent contributor to Catholic schools, also contributed. Many other generous donors gave to the cause that night, but humbly asked to remain anonymous.

Superintendent Kathy Mears remarked, “I am thrilled that this school is being rewarded for their excellence. They are shining a light on the exceptional spirit of our Catholic Schools.” Sacred Heart School is not done with their campaigning. They want to dream bigger and have set the challenge of reaching two million dollars by next year. The school has always had a pioneering spirit and was the first to become a STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) institution within the Archdiocese of Boston. STREAM reinforces the relationship between core subjects and the integration of religion and the arts. With these funds, Haldiman hopes the school will continue to educate students and lead them to become successful, productive, faith-filled citizen of the 21st Century for years to come.
