Each year, the Archdiocese of Boston’s Office for Black Catholic Ministries sponsors the Bishop James Augustine Healy Award Dinner. Bishop Healy was the first African American Roman Catholic Bishop in the United States, the second Bishop of Portland, Maine, and a priest of the then, Boston Diocese. The celebration honors the achievements of inspiring people in our midst. During the Healy Award Dinner, the efforts of individuals who work within the black Catholic community are also recognized with the Robert L. Ruffin Award.
2017 Recipients:
Black Catholic Ministries within the Secretariat for Evangelization & Discipleship is pleased to announce Ms. Tchintcia Barros, from St. Patrick parish in Roxbury, as the 2017 Bishop James Augustine Healy Awardrecipient.
This year we are blessed to honor two outstanding religious women with the Robert L. Ruffin Award-Sr. Joyce McMullen is at Dorchester Mattapan Collaborative and Sr. Christine Smith is at St. Katharine Drexel and St. Patrick Parishes.
The guest speaker will be Sr. Marcia Hall, O.S.P.
