WELLESLEY- On Thursday evening the Archdiocese of Boston shut down the heating system in St. James the Great Church after the building’s property insurance company deemed the boiler unsafe.
The diocese has been maintaining the building since its 2004 closing, covering over $370,000 in building maintenance costs during the ongoing appeals. In 2010 the Vatican’s highest court affirmed the closing of the parish. A further appeal is currently pending regarding a recent decision to sell this property. The Archdiocese will continue their efforts to maintain the facility until the final appeal is resolved.
