Watertown, MA -- The full Rosary prayer is now available at Catholic.net every day with the corresponding mysteries of the day. The online Rosary, which is produced by CatholicTV, can be seen at Catholic.net by clicking on “Rosary” on the right side of the home page in the blue menu.
Catholic.net serves as an online platform to build synergies among the various apostolic initiatives. This platform includes resources for Catholics to use in their everyday lives. One of these life-giving resources is recitation of the rosary which is prayed 3 times daily on CatholicTV on selected cable stations in New England and nationally on Sky Angel. It is also available on the CatholicTV iPhone app. The twenty mysteries of the rosary are prayed in settings all around the world from Boston to St. Petersburg, Russia with family participants and people on pilgrimage.
The rosary is a popular devotion rooted in the scriptural accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and his mother Mary. There are twenty mysteries reflected upon in the Rosary, and these are divided into the five Joyful Mysteries, the five Luminous Mysteries, the five Sorrowful Mysteries, and the five Glorious Mysteries. The prayers recited in the rosary are two prayers which come to us in Scripture; the Our Father and the Hail Mary along with the Apostles Creed and a doxology of a Glory Be, a Trinitarian prayer. Nearly all of the mysteries also come directly from Sacred Scripture.
In 2002, the Luminous Mysteries were added by Pope John Paul II. The Joyful mysteries are said on Monday and Saturday, the Luminous on Thursday, the Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday, and the Glorious on Wednesday and Sunday with some exceptions occurring during the Christmas and Lenten seasons.
