Students are among the highest-scoring entrants in Massachusetts

BRAINTREE, MA (September 9, 2015) -- Thirteen students from eight schools in the Archdiocese of Boston were announced today as National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists.
 
Approximately 1.5 million students applied for the program as juniors by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, and less than one percent of current high school seniors qualified to become semifinalists.
 
The finalists, who will be announced in February, will go on to compete for a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship, of which there are 2,500 available. In addition, corporations, colleges, and universities will also sponsor approximately 4,900 Merit Scholarships. Scholarships are awarded in spring/summer 2016. Merit scholars are chosen based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
