Office of Delegate for the Consecrated Life: Mission

The Delegate for the Consecrated Life is appointed by the Archbishop and serves as the liaison to the members of religious institutes of men and women, Consecrated Virgins, Hermits of the Archdiocese, and Secular Institutes residing and serving in the Archdiocese of Boston.

Among other services, the Office functions as a conduit of communication, information, and support to the members of the consecrated life, especially through closer contact with the major superiors or the local house coordinators. Some of the many activities performed:

• The Delegate sponsors annual events with the Archbishop and the men and women in consecrated life.
• Coordinates the annual jubilee celebrations and regional celebrations of World Day for Consecrated Life.
• Offers programs and events that promote vocation awareness.
• Assists in the discernment and formation of those seeking to become Consecrated Virgins or Hermits of the Archdiocese.  
• Is available to individual members of consecrated life, or the leadership, as a resource for addressing specific needs and questions.
• Attends, to the extent possible, profession ceremonies, jubilees, funerals and other special events of members of the consecrated life.
• Coordinates the annu, al Collection for Retired Sisters to assist communities in providing for the health care needs of retired religious who have served in the Archdiocese of Boston.
• Maintains a database that includes names, residences, and ministry assignments for the members of the consecrated life.

The Delegate is a member of the Archbishop’s Cabinet.
