Braintree, MA—To mark the close of the Year of the Eucharist, Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley, OFM Cap invites all Catholics to a Eucharistic Congress—Jesus is Here, Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA.
The day-long Congress (8:30am-6:00pm) will feature nationally known Catholic speakers Bishop Robert Barron, Bishop Daniel Flores, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, and Jackie and Bobby Angel. The event, hosted by Bishop Robert Reed, also features music by Sarah Kroger, Ike Ndolo, and Ricky Vazquez of Village Lights, a multi-cultural collective. Cardinal Seán will open the Congress with Mass and close with Adoration and a Eucharistic procession through the streets of Lowell.
Cardinal Seán’s hopes for the Eucharistic Congress are that Catholics deepen their understanding of Jesus’ true presence in the Eucharist. In his letter announcing the Year of the Eucharist, the Cardinal writes, “God created us and entered into creation in Jesus Christ so we could be close to Him, hear Him, know Him, and love Him. The sacraments not only touch our lives, they mold our very being, and the Eucharist is the center of our sacramental life.”
Liz Cotrupi, Director of Family Life for the Archdiocese and lead for the Eucharistic Congress, encourages parishes to sign up as a group, saying this is a great evangelization opportunity for parishes to organize a Eucharistic pilgrimage right in your own backyard and witness to the power of the Eucharist together. “It’s also a great opportunity to invite someone who’s been away from the Church to see the beauty of the Catholic faith, alive and well in New England—a witness to the power of Jesus, that He is here, that He cares about us, and that He promises to never leave us. After what our world has been through these last two plus years, we need this public witness of faith more than ever,” she said. Cotrupi expects over 5,000 to attend the Congress and hopes this will jumpstart a Eucharistic revival in Boston and beyond.
Keynote talks will be given in English with translation into Spanish and Portuguese; however Bishop Flores’ talk will be in Spanish (with English and Portuguese translation). Nationally known Catholic publishers and apostolates will have tables throughout the Tsongas Arena for Congress attendees to browse. Lunch is available for an additional cost which can be purchased at the time of registration (but the arena will also have food options for those who did not choose the lunch option).
Early bird tickets are $39 before March 31. After that date, prices go up to $49 per person.
In addition to the Congress, the Archdiocese is sponsoring Jesus is Here for Youth and Young Adults at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Friday evening, June 17, 2022, 7:30pm-9:30pm. The evening, hosted by Fr. Matt Williams, will feature talks by Jackie and Bobby Angel, music by Village Lights, Adoration and confession. Tickets for the Youth and Young Adult evening are $10.
