Irish Pastoral Centre to Host Phil Coulter in Exclusive Boston Performance

The Irish Pastoral Centre is excited to be hosting, in his only Boston performance, Phil Coulter live in concert. This exclusive performance will take place in the magical setting of St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill, MA on October 14 at 7:30 PM. Tickets for this event are $125 and can be purchased from the IPC website www.ipcboston.org.

Phil Coulter is without doubt, one the enduring talents in Irish music and shows no signs of slowing down. He is one of a handful of songwriters who can lay claim to having had chart entries in every decade since the 60’s. He announced his arrival by winning Eurovision in 1967 with “Puppet On A String” and coming second in 1968 with “Congratulations”, both songs now regarded as standards. Over the next number of years he notched up hits with a diverse list of acts from Elvis Presley to Waylon Jennings. Cilla Black to Bobby Vinton, Billy Connolly to The Bay City Rollers. As a writer/producer, his credits are formidable and include icons like Van Morrison and Sinead O’Connor. He has won five Ivor Novello Awards including Songwriter of the Year and three A.S.C.A.P awards.

He has always had a passion for Irish music and has worked with legendary acts like Planxty, The Dubliners, Liam Clancy and the Furey Brothers. His contribution to the Great Irish Songbook is substantial, “Scorn Not His Simplicity”, “Steal Away”, “Ireland’s Call”, “The Town I Loved So Well” to name just a few.

A measure of the breadth of his talent is the international success of his orchestral albums, with millions of records sold, performances at the White House and the Nobel Peace Awards plus a Grammy nomination.

"It's been too long since I played Boston and I'm so looking forward to going back," Phil told us." The fact that the concert is taking place at Boston College makes it all the more special to me since I was Visiting Professor in the Irish Studies program for three years. I've played in St Ignatius Church there before and it's a marvelous, magical space, perfect for an evening of music and song. I can't wait". Apart from being an important fundraiser for a worthy cause, this is a one-off concert and a rare opportunity to hear one of Ireland's iconic musical legends in a wonderful setting that is up close and personal.
