Braintree, MA (July 18, 2016) – Focusing on a broad commitment to align the Archdiocese of Boston to better serve the faithful, Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley announced today a series of leadership and parish appointments. The appointments follow the June 3, 2016 announcement that Pope Francis named Bishops-elect Robert Reed and Mark O’Connell Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese of Boston. Their episcopal ordination will take place on August 24, 2016 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
In making the announcement, Cardinal Seán said, “As the Archdiocese continues the ongoing work of responding to the pastoral and ministerial needs of our Catholic family, we are pleased that these gifted priests and religious have accepted the call to these new assignments. We are blessed by their commitment to bring the spiritual and corporal works of mercy to the people we serve, through the vision established in Disciples in Mission.”
Appointments: Bishop-elect Robert P. Reed will assume the role of Regional Bishop for the West Region on August 24th. In addition he will become Pastor of Pastor of Good Shepherd Parish in Wayland effective September 21st. Bishop-elect Reed will continue to serve as Secretary for Catholic Media overseeing CatholicTV, Pilot Bulletins, The Pilot and radio apostolate. Bishop-elect Reed was ordained to the priesthood in 1985.
Bishop-elect Mark O'Connell, JCD will assume the role of Regional Bishop for the North Region on August 24th. In addition he will become Pastor of St Therese Parish in North Reading effective September 1st. Bishop-elect O’Connell will continue to serve as Archdiocesan Judicial Vicar at this time. Bishop-elect O'Connell was ordained to the priesthood in 1990.
Very Rev. Brian R. Kiely, MA has been appointed Rector of Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, MA. Currently Episcopal Vicar for the West Region, Fr. Kiely will assume his new duties on August 24th. Fr. Kiely was ordained to the priesthood in 1978.
Very Rev. William B. Palardy, PhD will become Pastor of St. Agatha Parish in Milton, MA. Currently Rector of Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary he assumes his new assignment effective September 1st. Fr. Palardy was ordained to the priesthood in 1985.
Very Rev. Gerard Petringa’s next assignment will be announced at a later date. Fr. Petringa was ordained to the priesthood in 1988.
Very Rev. James A. Flavin, Episcopal Vicar for the Central Region, will also become Administrator of Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury, MA, effective September 21st. Fr. Flavin was ordained to the priesthood in 1987.
Very Rev. Bryan K. Parrish has been appointed Episcopal Vicar for Clergy effective September 1st. Fr. Parrish was ordained to the priesthood in 1988.
Rev. Robert M. Blaney has been appointed Secretary for Ministerial Personnel effective date September 1st. Fr. Blaney was ordained to the priesthood in 1992.
Brother James Peterson, OFM Cap, JCD has been appointed Vice Chancellor for the Archdiocese effective September 1st. He continues as Assistant to the Moderator of the Curia for Canonical Affairs. Br. Jim professed solemn vows in 2005.
Rev. W. Christopher Palladino, JCL has been appointed Adjutant Judicial Vicar with the Metropolitan Tribunal effective September 1st. Fr. Palladino is currently a canon lawyer with the Tribunal. Fr. Palladino was ordained to the priesthood in 2006.
