July 31, 2020 - Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley To Ordain 5 Priests for the Archdiocese of Boston

Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley will ordain five men to the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Boston this Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The Ordination Mass begins at 10:00 A.M. In addition he will ordain one candidate to the priesthood for the Jesuit's USA Northeast Province.

Due to capacity restrictions as a result of COVID-19, media will be permitted to cover the Ordination only via CatholicTV, which will air the Mass live.

Cardinal Seán said, “During the many unexpected challenges this year has brought forth, we have been blessed by the steadfast commitment and presence of our priests in the life of the Church. We have seen their impact in the ministry to those suffering from COVID-19; in comforting their loved ones and healthcare professionals; and in providing access to the celebration of Mass and maintaining connection with parishioners and many others through the use of technology. Priests are called to holiness and to embrace the gift of service, particularly the celebration of the sacraments, in the name of Christ. Our newly ordained priests are embarking on a joyful journey accompanied in friendship by our Lord.”

Father Joseph Michael Hubbard
Father Hubbard was born in Boston on April 27, 1991. He is the eighth of the 11 children of John and Kathleen (Burke) Hubbard of Weymouth. Raised in St. Francis Xavier Parish in Weymouth, he attended its parish elementary school; then Weymouth public schools for middle and high school. He is a 2013 alumnus of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He is an alumnus of St. John Seminary, Brighton and served his deacon assignment at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham. He will celebrate his First Mass at St. Francis Xavier, Weymouth on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Father Charles J. Higgins, the present pastor of the parish will be the homilist.

Father Denis Nareign Nakkeeran
A native of Colombo, Sri Lanka born there on Sept. 11, 1992, he is the son of Kanapathipillai and Marie (Thomas) Nakkeeran. One of two children, Father Nakkeeran grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. attending Joseph F. Lamb, Elementary School; Andres Hudde Junior High and Brooklyn Technical High School all in Kings County. He is an alumnus of Boston University’s class of 2014 where he received a B.S. in Human Physiology; in 2016 he was awarded the Bachelor of Philosophy from St. John Seminary, Brighton and in 2019 a S.T.B (Bachelor in Sacred Theology) from the Pontifical Gregorian University, where he has studied as a seminarian at Rome’s Pontifical North American College. Father Nakkeeran will be the principal celebrant and homilist of his First Mass at St. John the Baptist Church Peabody on Sunday, Aug 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM.

Father Matthew James Norwood
Born in the Newton on March 10, 1994, Father Norwood is the son of Robert and Donna (Gallitano) Norwood. He was raised in Wellesley’s St. Paul Parish and attended local public schools: John Hardy Elementary; Wellesley Middle and Wellesley High Schools. He is a 2016 graduate of The Catholic University of America earning a Bachelor of Philosophy degree. During his deacon year, he has been assisting at St. Columbkille, Brighton. Father Norwood will celebrate his First Mass at St. Paul Church, Wellesley on Aug. 2, 2020. The homilist will be Father Daniel P. Leary, the pastor of St. Andrew Parish, Silver Spring, Md.

Father Fernando José Vivas
Born in Managua, Nicaragua on Dec. 16, 1984, Father Vivas is a son of the late Luis Ramon Vivas Perez and Ana (Alvardo Sanchez) Perez. He is the youngest of five children. His home parish in Barrio Altagracia, Managua is Maria Immaculada. He attended Colegio Madre del Divino Pastor in Altagracia, Managua. He studied Business Administration at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua-Reconti Universitario Carlos Fonseca Amador in Managua. He has studied at Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary in Brookline and has received two degrees from St. John Seminary, Brighton: Bachelor of Philosophy in 2012 and Master of Divinity in 2019. Father Vivas has been serving his deacon internship at St. Joseph Parish, Lynn where he will celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving on Aug. 2, 2020 at 10:00 AM in English and at 11:30 AM in Spanish.

Father Daniel Andrew Zinger
Father Zinger was born on July 24, 1991, the eldest of the three sons of Andrew and Robin (Skinner) Zinger. He attended school in his hometown of Liverpool, N.Y. on the shores of Lake Onondaga. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from St. John University in Queens, New York in 2013. He has been studying theology and preparing for ordination at St. John Seminary in Brighton from which he received the Master in Divinity, this past spring. His deacon assignment has been at St. John the Baptist, Peabody.  Father Zinger will celebrate his First Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle, Salem on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020 at Noon. Father Walter A. Carreiro, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua or Lisbon (Portuguese), Cambridge and Administrator of St. Francis of Assisi (Italian), Cambridge will be the homilist.
