HAS RAISED MORE THAN $400 MILLION OVER TENURE; PARISHES, SCHOOLS AND MINISTRIES STRENGTHENED

Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley, OFM Cap, announced today that Kathleen Driscoll, Secretary for Institutional Advancement, has accepted the position of Senior Vice President, Chief of Philanthropy at UMass Memorial Health Care. 

Kathleen Driscoll Spearheaded Significant Support for Church Ministries

During her ten years with the Archdiocese of Boston, Ms. Driscoll led the strategic implementation of a more advanced and sustainable fund-raising initiative, which benefited parishes, schools and the central ministries. She started a new shared service development model, Boston Catholic Development Services, (BCDS) which annually raises over $23M. She also led the Campaign for Catholic Schools, which has raised more than $100 million for the benefit of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Boston.

Cardinal Seán said, “Kathleen has been a force for change during her time helping the Church to meet its pastoral and social justice mission. She has helped to reshape the way we raise the much-needed funds to support our parishes, schools and ministries. Her commitment to Christ and the Church has sustained her and inspired others to a ministry of service. We wish her great success as she embarks on her new position and offer our prayers of gratitude for all she does for the people of God”.

Ms. Driscoll said, “I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve the Church and to assist Cardinal Seán in his ministry as shepherd for the Archdiocese of Boston. It has been a privilege to work with so many wonderful and dedicated colleagues, benefactors and people of faith who love the mission of the Church. We made great progress during challenging times and we are in a better financial position long-term to sustain the many good works of mercy and serving others.”

Under Ms. Driscoll’s leadership the following fundraising initiatives saw significant growth:

The Catholic Appeal, which funds more than fifty central ministries, grew approximately 28%.

The Celebration of the Priesthood Dinner, the annual gathering to benefit the Clergy Benefit Trust which supports all active and senior priests in good standing in the Archdiocese, doubled in revenue raising over $11.2 M in the past 9 years.

Launched the first diocesan-wide capital campaign in two decades – Inspiring Hope – which recently moved into its public phase having raised more than $150M to date against a $200M goal. The five priority areas of the campaign are: Catholic education, Catholic Charities, Cathedral of the Holy Cross renovation, support for our priests and seminarians and building the future of our faith in support of our parishes.

Before joining the Archdiocese, Ms. Driscoll was a senior executive with John Hancock Financial Services and served as Senior Vice President, Brokerage Sales, and prior to that was Vice President of Corporate Communications.

Patricia Kelleher Bartram Appointed Interim Secretary for Institutional Advancement


The Cardinal also announced that Patricia Kelleher Bartram has been appointed Interim Secretary for Institutional Advancement. She currently serves as Vice President of Development with the Archdiocese of Boston.  

Cardinal Seán said, “Pat is an experienced professional in the field of institutional advancement. We are fortunate she has agreed to assume the role of Interim Secretary for Institutional Advancement and to lead a team of highly committed and faith filled people who care deeply about the Church and its mission.”

In her current role, she manages the major gift efforts of the annual appeal and the Inspiring Hope Capital campaign, as well as the parish campaigns. She also serves as president of the Catholic Community Fund and the Catholic Health Foundation, the latter which has made 352 health-related grants totaling $3.94 million since its inception in 2014. She began her work for the Church in 2007 as Associate Vice President of Development at the Campaign for Catholic Schools, one of two fundraising professionals hired to implement a major new fundraising initiative aimed at rebuilding the urban Catholic schools in Greater Boston.

Ms. Bartram said, “I want to thank the Cardinal for having the confidence in me to continue the great work we have undertaken under Kathleen’s leadership. Kathleen and I have been long time colleagues and friends so while it is difficult to see her move on, we are blessed with the strong foundation she established during her time with the Archdiocese.”

Ms. Bartram is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst (BA, Communications) and Notre Dame Academy Worcester, which presented her with their Knollwood Alumna Award in 2009, in recognition of her having distinguished herself in her work and her service to others and the school.
