May 18, 2017 - Cardinal to Ordain Eight Priests

Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley will ordain nine men to the Priesthood this Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Church, 3 Fayette Street, Lowell, MA.  The Ordination Mass begins at 10:00 A.M., with the procession commencing at 9:45 A.M.  The Ordination has been moved to Immaculate Conception as the Cathedral of the Holy Cross is in early preparations for renovations, including project scope and timing of possible work, to the interior worship site.

Cardinal Seán said, “We are blessed to welcome these eight dedicated men to the priesthood and in service to the people of God. We pray that they will be blessed with wisdom, patience and a joyful spirit as they take their place among the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston, carrying on the ministry established by Jesus Christ.”  The Cardinal also extended his sincere appreciation to the community at Immaculate Conception Parish and Rev. Nicholas Sannella, Pastor, for welcoming this celebration to their beautifully restored church.

Following are the candidates for ordination:

Jason Rinaldo Giombetti  

Born on New Year’s Day 1984 in Framingham, Jason is the only child of Joseph and Katherine (Moran) Giombetti of Ashland. He attended local public schools: Warren (Elementary); Mindess (Junior High) and Ashland High. He received A.A. from Dean College in Franklin and a B.S. from Suffolk University majoring in psychology. Following college graduation in 2006 and until 2011 he was Director of Religious Education and Coordinator of Youth Ministry at two parishes: St. Cecilia, Ashland and St. Patrick, Natick. He entered St. John Seminary and has spent his deacon year at St. Joseph Parish, Needham. He will be the principal celebrant at his First Mass at St. Cecilia Church, Ashland on Sunday, May 21, 2017; Father Romanus Cessario, OP, of St. John Seminary faculty will be homilist.

Pablo Gomis  

A native of Cartagena, Murcia, Spain, Pablo was born there on Nov. 18, 1985; he is the youngest of the three sons of Jose and Soledad (Gonzalez) Gombis, his older brothers are Javier and Jose Carlos. His pre-seminary education was in Spain in the city of Cartagena: primary and middle school at Colegio Vicente Ros; and secondary at Instituto Jimenez de la Espada. Pablo is an alumnus of the Redmptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary in Brookline and served at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, East Boston during his deacon year. He will celebrate and preach at his First Mass at the East Boston Parish on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 12:30 PM.

Kevin Paul Leaver  

The oldest of the three children of Paul and Barbara (Peterson) Leaver, Kevin was born in Salem on June 15, 1985. He grew up in Immaculate Conception Parish in Stoughton with his younger siblings: Christopher and Julianne Marrion. He attended Stoughton public schools: Helen H. Hansen Elementary; Doctor Robert G. O’Donnell Middle; and Stoughton High School. His college education was at Bridgewater State University from which he was graduated in 2007 with the B.A. with Modern Languages (Spanish) as his major and a minor in Secondary Education. Between 2007 and 2011 he taught Spanish at Natick High School (2007-2009) and at Medfield High School (2009-2011); during those years he also served as Youth Minister at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Bridgewater. He is completing his seminary formation at the Pontifical North American College at Rome. He will celebrate his First Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton on Sunday, May 21, 2017 with the parish’s parochial vicar, Father Derek Borek as homilist.

Godfrey Musabe
Born in Fort Portal, Uganda on November 28, 1985 he is the fifth of the eight children of Charles Bweyale and Euflazia Bonabaana. His siblings are Charles Bahemuka, Adolf Mwesige, Bridget Birungi, Christine Kabasinguzi, Irine Kanyiginya; two brothers are deceased Raymond Businge and John Mary Vianney Rujumba. Godfrey received all of his pre-seminary education in Uganda. Kyarusozi Primary School; St. Mary Minor Seminary and St. Leo College. In 2008 he received a B.A. in Social Sciences from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, Uganda and a certificate in Administrative Law from Makerere University in Kampla. He is an alumnus of St. John Seminary and has been deacon at St. Mary Magalden, Tyngborough; St. Rita, Lowell and St. Marguerite d’Youville, Dracuit Parishes. He will celebrate his First Mass at St. Mary Church, Waltham on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 1:30 PM; Father Michael Ssenfuma will be the homilist.

Wellington Oliveira  

Born on May 14, 1980 in Brazil’s capital city, Brasilia Wellington is the eldest of the three children of Sebastiao and Iraci de Oliveira; he has a younger sister Elida and the youngest a brother is Wesley. All of Wellington’s pre-seminary education was in Brazil. Primary at Centro Educacional Jesus Maria Jose; middle and secondary at Centro Educacional Ave Branca and Colégio Rui Barbosa Centro Educational; in 2001 he graduated from Universidade Católica de Brasília. Wellington is an alumnus of the Redmptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary in Brookline. He will celebrate two First Masses on Sunday May 21, 2017: one in English at 10:15 AM; the other in Spanish at Noon both in St. Patrick Church, Brockton where he has served his deacon assignment.

Joel Americo Santos  

A native of El Salvador, he was born in San Salvador on January 26, 1983 one of seven children of Maria (Meija) Santos and the late Miguel Santos. He has three sisters: Daisy Vasquez; Maria; and Paula, and three brothers: Vladimir, Miguel and Gustavo. All of his pre-seminary education and employment was in El Salvador: Escuela Manuel Jose Arce, San Salvador; Escuela Nino Jesus de Praga, San Miguel; Instituto Arce; Universidad Centro Americana Jose Simeon Canas from which he received a licenciate in theology in 2007. He served as a religious teacher in Agua Caliente; as a Youth Minister in Chalatenango and a pastoral assistant in Agua Caliente. He is an alumnus of St. John Seminary and served his deacon assignment at St. Mary Parish in Holliston. He will celebrate his First Mass at St. Benedict Church, Somerville on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 4:00 PM; Father Jose Ruiz Sanchez will be the homilist.

William Paro Joseph Sexton  

The only child of Ellen Sexton of Dedham, William was born in Kolkutta, India on May 6, 1986. He attended Oakldale Elementary School; Dedham Middle and High Schools before entering the University of Massachusetts (Boston) from which he graduated with a B.A. Between 2006 and 2010 he was a substitute teacher in the Dedham Public School system, and later a full time teacher in the same system between 2010 and 2012; from 2006 through 2012 he was also employed in Maintenance and Operations at Noble and Greenough School, also in Dedham. An alumnus of St. John Seminary he served his diaconal internship at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Bridgewater. His First Mass will be at St. Mary Church, Dedham on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 5:00 PM with Father William T. Kelly, pastor of St. Paul Parish, Cambridge as the homilist.

Michael Louis Zimmerman

The middle of Myron and Catherine (Trembowicz) Zimmerman’s three children, Michael was born in Boston on Nov. 12, 1988; his older sister is Michelle and younger brother is Mark . He grew up in Needham and attended St. Joseph School; Msgr. James J. Haddad Middle School both in Needham and Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood. He is an alumnus of Boston University and has both a B.A. and an M.A. in Chemistry from BU. He attended the Pontifical North American College at Rome and during his diaconal year he served at St. John University Rome Campus. His First Mass will be at his home parish, St. Joseph, Needham on May 21, 2017 at 12:30 P.M.; the homilist will be fellow Xaverian Brothers High Alumnus and Archdiocesan Director of Evangelization for Youth and Young Adults, Father Matthew M. Williams.
