May 20, 2016 - Cardinal to Ordain Nine Priests*

(Braintree, MA) -  Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley will ordain nine men to the Priesthood this Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street, Boston.  The Ordination Mass begins at 9 a.m. 

Cardinal Seán said, “We are blessed by the commitment of these nine men to walk in the footsteps of Christ in service to the Church.  Each of these newly ordained brings their own unique and special gifts to the priesthood.  We pray that God grants them good health, joy in their daily ministry and the loving support of the Catholic family every day of their priesthood.” 

The CatholicTV Network will broadcast the entire Mass live from the Cathedral beginning at 9:00 A.M.  CatholicTV President Fr. Christopher Woongjin Bae

A native of Seoul, Korea, he was born on May 21, 1983.  His ordination will be held on his 33rd birthday. Father Bae attended elementary school in Choongju, Korea, Cypress High School, Cypress, Claif. And UCLA, Los Angeles, Calif., and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to entering St. John Seminary, he worked for two years as a  research assistant at MIT, and for two years as an analyst at Accenture, Boston. During his deacon assignment he served at Christ the King, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Edith Stein parish, all in Brockton. Father Bae will celebrate his First Mass at St. Antoine Daveluy Parish in Newton on May 22, 2016 at 3:00 PM. Msgr. Philip J. Reilly, a priest of the diocese of Brooklyn will be the homilist.

Matthew John Conley

A Boston native, he was born on Dec. 9, 1989 the third son of John and Francine (LoPiccolo) Conley.  A son of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Boston’s Dorchester section, he attended St. Mary School in South Boston and North Cambridge Catholic High School in Cambridge before entering Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Rhode Island.  A graduate of Providence College, he worked in several positions at Pitney Bowes, Harvard Pilgrim Health, and the Planning Office for Urban Affairs in the Archdiocese. He is an alumnus of St. John Seminary and has been a deacon at St. Mary Parish, Holliston. He will celebrate his First Mass at St. Margate Church of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish on May 22, 2016 at 4:30 PM; Father Paul Soper will be the homilist.

Patrick Joseph Fiorillo

One of the three sons of Francis and Vivian (Plourde) Fiorillo, he was born on July 10, 1986 and raised in St. Mary Parish, Franklin. He attended Benjamin Franklin Charter School in his home town and St. John High School Shrewsbury. His undergraduate study was at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. During his college years he worked as an audio recording engineer and as an office assistant. He entered St. John Seminary and has been deacon at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham, where he will celebrate his First Mass on May 22 at 2:30 PM Father Romanus Cessario, OP, of the seminary faculty will be the homilist.

J. Thomas Gignac

A Salem native and the son of G. Michael and Shirley (Laughy) Gignac, he was born on April 27, 1967. His home parish is St. Mary Star of the Sea in Beverly. He attended elementary school at Huckleberry Hill in Lynnfield; St. John Preparatory, Danvers for high school; and the School of Management at Syracuse University, and graduate school at the School of Information Studies, also at Syracuse and Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Before entering St. John Seminary, he worked in various capacities at IBM Corp., IBM Global Business Services, ISBM Consulting Group, Emergence Consulting and Renaissance Worldwide. During his deacon year, he has been serving at St. Lucy and St. Monica Parishes in Methuen. He will celebrate his First Mass at St. Monica Church, Methuen on May 22 at 11:30 AM with Father David Barnes as the homilist.

Stephen Robert LeBlanc

An alumnus of St. John Seminary, he was born on March 7, 1973.  A son of St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Parish in Hanover, he attend Center Elementary School in Hanover, Xaverian Brothers High School, Westwood, and graduated from Villanova University in Villanova, Penn. Before entering St. John Seminary, he attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Lincoln, Neb. He has held various positions at Media 3, Pembroke; Scudder Investments, Putnam Investments and State Street Bank. Father LeBlanc will celebrate his First Mass at St. Joseph Church, Medway on May 22 at 11:00 AM. He has been serving his deacon year at the Medway parish. Father David Pignato of St. John Seminary will be the homilist at the First Mass.

Huan Dinh Ngo

The third of the six children of Hiep and Duon (Nguyen) Ngo, Huan, whose baptismal name is Dominic, was born in Bien Hoa,Vietnam on Sept. 14, 1986. They family belongs to Sacred Heart Parish in East Boston. Before entering St. John Seminary, he attended the Jackson Mann School, in Boston’s Allston section, Boston Latin School Boston and Providence College. During his deacon year he has been serving at St. Joseph Parish, Needham. He will celebrate his First Mass at Sacred Herat, East Boston on May 22 at 1:00 Pm, Father Christopher O’Connor, Vice-Rector of St,. John Seminary will be the homilist.

Thomas Majors Olson

One of the three sons of Thomas and Marsha Olsen, he was born on May 22, 1980 in Worcester. He attended Boylston School in Boylston, Wachusett Regional High School in Holden and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. He also completed graduate studies at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo. and Boston College. During his deacon year he has been serving at St. Columbkille Parish in Brighton. He completed his seminary formation of Pope St. John XXIII Seminary, Weston. He will celebrate and preach his First Mass at St. Columbkille on May 22 (his 36th birthday) at 5:00 PM.

Kevin Staley-Joyce

Born in Summit, N.J. on Nov. 25, 1986, Kevin Staley Joyce is the son of Elizabeth (Joyce) and the late Robert Staley. He attended St. Mary of Hills School, Milton, the Archdiocesan Choir School in Cambridge, The Roxbury Latin School in West Roxbury and is an alumnus of Princeton University, Princeton, N.J. From 2009-2011 he worked as an assistant editor for First Things magazine in New York. He entered the archdiocesan seminaries at St. John Seminary and was later assigned to studies at the Pontifical North American College, Rome. During his summer assignments he served at St. Mary in Dedham and Gate of Heaven and St. Brigid in South Boston.Father Staley-Joyce will celebrate his First Mass at his home parish, St. Theresa of Avila, West Roxbury on Sunday, May 22, 2016 and Noon. Father Thomas Macdonald, St. Ann and St. Brendan Parishes, Dorchester will be the homilist.

Thomas Robert Sullivan

The son of Thomas and Geraldine (Reed), he was born March 28, 1982 in Boston. He attended the Hosmer School in Watertown, Boston College High School and Boston College. During his deacon year he has been serving at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Bridgewater. An alumnus of St. John Seminary, he will celebrate his First Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Watertown on May 22 at Noon, he will also be the homilist of the Mass.
