May 23, 2014 - Cardinal to Ordain Nine Priests*

(Braintree, MA) … Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley will ordain nine men to the priesthood tomorrow, Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street, Boston.  The Ordination Mass begins at 9:00 A.M.

Cardinal Seán said, “The Ordination of these nine men to the priesthood is an especially joyful day for the Church.  With grace they have gladly accepted the call to ‘go and make disciples.’  Evangelization is at the heart of what we do as priests by ministering and bringing the Sacraments to the faithful, caring for the sick and helping the needy.  We pray for their good health, wisdom and to always trust in the Lord.”  

The CatholicTV Network will air the Ordination Mass for the Archdiocese of Boston at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The Mass will air LIVE at 9AM ET and will rebroadcast at 8PM ET. Commentary for the Ordination Mass will be provided by The CatholicTV Network president, Father Reed.

Following are the candidates for ordination:
 
Father Jeffrey Scott Archer

A native of Connecticut, he was born in the capital city of Hartford on Dec. 1, 1962, the youngest of the three sons of Jacqueline (Wetherall) Archer and the late John Archer; his brothers Joseph P. and James G. Archer are the oldest and middle respectively.  He was educated in public schools of South Windsor and is an alumnus of Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. 

Before entering the Pope St. John XXIII Seminary, he worked at Travelers Insurance Company and Computer Science Corporation in the financial services departments. He also has an MBA from RPI in Troy, New York and is a certified Project Manager (Boston College and a certified Strategic Planner (American Management Association, New York, N.Y.)

His home parish is St. Cecilia in Boston’s Back Bay. Father Archer will celebrate his First Mass at St. Francis of Assisi, Braintree on May 25 at Noon. The Braintree parish has been his deacon intern assignments during his final year of seminary formation.

Father Steven Clemence

When he is ordained on May 24, Father Clemence will be the first native Brazilian to be ordained for the Archdiocese. He was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on July 30, 1987. He is one of the two sons of Derek and Simone (DaCosta) Clemence; his brother William is a priest of the archdiocese of Denver.

His home parish is the Cathedral of the Jundiai, São Paulo, Brazil, Nossa Senhora do Desterro. Father Clemence attended schools in his native state graduating from Leonardo Da Vinci secondary school. A member of the NeoCatechumenal Way, he is an alumnus of Boston’s Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary.

During his deacon year of seminary formation, he has been assigned at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross where he will celebrate his First Mass on May 25 at 9:30 AM.

Father Peter Francis DeFazio

One of the five children of Joseph and Sarah (Montesanti) DeFazio of Waltham, he was born on Nov. 13, 1964, the third child and first son; two sisters Alba and Tina are older, one sister Lisa and his brother Frank are younger. The family grew up in Waltham’s Sacred Heart (Italian) Parish.

He attended public schools in neighboring Watertown, graduating from its high school and then attending and graduating from UMass – Boston; he has a master’s degree in arts specializing in American Civilization from his alma mater.

Before entering Pope St. John XXIII Seminary, he worked as a research data analyst, a compliance office, labor law enforcement and federal contract compliance official.

Father DeFazio will celebrate his First Mass at Sacred Heart, Waltham on June 1 at 6:00 PM. During his deacon year, he served at St. Stephen Parish in Framingham.

Father George E. Fitzsimmons

He is the eldest of George and Mary Louise (O’Rourke) Fitzsimmons four children. He was born in Belleville, Ill. on Sept. 3, 1970. He and his siblings Kate Long, Patrick and Brian were raised in St. James the Greater Parish in St. Louis, Mo. He attended Price Elementary School; the Jesuits St. Louis University High School and St. Louis University. He has graduate degrees in theology and law; an M.A. in theology from St. John University, Queens, N.Y. and his J.D. from the University of Missouri Law School at Columbia, Mo.

Before entering St. John Seminary, he worked as a Circuit Attorney ( roughly equal to a District Attorney in Massachusetts) in St. Louis; and later taught theology at Hudson Catholic regional High in Jersey City, N.J.

Father Fitzsimmons will celebrate his First Mass at Str. Michael Church, Avon on May 25 at 12:30 PM.

Father Kevin Thomas Hickey

A Boston native where he was born on May 3, 1951, he is the middle child of Mary (Hennigan) Hickey and the late John Hickey. His siblings are older brother John and sister, Katherine Parcels; and younger brother Brian and sister, Marie.

He attended elementary school at St. Paul, Wellesley; and then St. Sebastian Country Day in Newton (now Needham), following graduation from St. Sebastian he went west to South Bend, Indiana and was graduated from the University of Notre Dame.

Following graduation from Notre Dame, he held a series of positions in financial management at BayBank Norfolk, Manager; Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Credit Collector; Milton Medical Center, Billing Manager; St. Margaret Hospital for Women, Billing Manager; St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Systems Manager; and Caritas Christi Health System, Systems Analyst.

An alumnus of Pope St. John XXIII Seminary who calls St. Clare Parish, Braintree his home parish, Father Hickey will celebrate his First Mass there on May 25 at 2:00 PM. His deacon year assignment was at St. Bridget Parish, Framingham.

Father Karlo Joseph Hocuscak

The oldest of the three sons of John and Nancy (Leonetti) Hocurscak was born in Bridgeport, CT. on April 8, 1974. His younger brothers are Michael and Steven. He attended local public schools in Shelton, CT. and on graduation from the town’s high school, he enrolled at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester.

The WPI alumnus who is also an alumnus of St. John Seminary, worked as a process engineer at Koch Membrane Systems, Wilmington, and as a support and software engineer at Formation Systems, Southborough, Mass. and Infor Global Solutions in Framingham, Mass. before undertaking his seminary studies.

Now a member of Sacred Hearts Parish in Haverhill, he has been serving his deacon assignment at the “Brockton Tri Parish” — Christ the King, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Edith Stein in the Boxer City.

He will celebrate his First Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Brockton on May 25 at 2:00 PM.

Father Mark Douglas Storey

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Father Storey was born on Dec. 5, 1953. His parents, Douglas and Murielle (Thompson) Storey are both deceased.  He has one brother, Randy M. Storey.

Father Storey’s elementary and secondary educations were in Canada: Lakeview Public in Grimsby, Ontario; and Lindsay Place High School in Pointe Claire, Quebec. He came to Boston for undergraduate and graduate studies in chemical engineering receiving both his B.S. and M.S. from Northeastern University.

Following graduation, he worked for 30 years as a chemical engineer at The Badger Company and at Raytheon.

His home parish is St. Mary of the Sacred Heart, Hanover where he will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on May 25 at 11:30 A.M. During his deacon year he has been serving at St. Catherine of Alexandria in Westford. An alumnus of Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary, he will celebrate his First Mass at St. Ann by the Sea, Marshfield on May 24 at 4:00 P.M.

Father Lawrence Michael Tocci

Born July 30, 1969, he is the youngest of the nine children of Valentino and Ruth (Carres) Tocci. His siblings are John L. and Michael J. Tocci; Valerie A. Notartomaso; William R.; Cynthia L.; Daniel C.; and Valentino J. Tocci, II.

Raised in Lexington, he attended Harrington Elementary School and Lexington High School. His undergraduate education was at UMass Boston; and he has subsequent degrees Master of Fine Arts from Brandeis and Ph. D. in Drama and Theater History from Tufts. Prior to his entering Pope St. John Seminary, he was a theatre artist, playwright and professor.

During his deacon year, he served at St. Bridget Parish in Abington. He will celebrate his First Mass at his present home parish, St. Patrick, Stoneham on May 25 at 6:00 PM.

Father Jiwon Yoon

He is the second of the three sons — Michael is older, and Ethan is younger — of Chong Yoon and Hwa Soon (Park) Yoon who are also the parents of the brothers’ only sister, Aimee. Born on Aug. 2, 1974 in Taegu, Korea he attended Kydae School in Taegu, before his family moved to the United States and he finished his high school education at Lexington High School.

Prior to entering St. John Seminary, he was graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.

St. Antonie Daveluy in Newton, the newly created quasi-parish for the Korean Catholic Community, is his home parish.

During his deacon year, he has been serving at St. Thomas Aquinas, Bridgewater where he will celebrate his First Mass on May 25 at 2:00 PM.
