WHAT: On Wednesday, a new memorial for veterans will be unveiled at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem at a ceremony honoring living and fallen veterans. Local veterans and elected officials have been invited to commemorate the ceremony which will be presided over by Father John MacInnis, pastor of Saint Thomas (Salem) and Saint John (Peabody) churches. More than 500 American flags have been ordered for the ceremony which will feature the Pledge of Allegiance led by a local veterans group and a rendition of “America the Beautiful” sung by a student from Bishop Fenwick High School. A representative from Buglers Across America will play “Taps” and the event will culminate with the dedication of a new memorial honoring veterans in the cemetery.
