(Brockton, MA) -- Addison Atanga of Abington, an eighth grade student at Trinity Catholic Academy in Brockton has been awarded the 2009 Saint Elizabeth Seton Scholarship. Addison was chosen as the recipient of this honor by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) in conjunction with their annual Seton Award Gala to be held this evening, October 5, 2009, in Washington D.C. The Seton Award is named after Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in recognition of her lifelong dedication to teaching and is presented annually to individuals whose support and service impact Catholic education. In addition, Jack and Eileen Connors will be awarded the Seton Award for their commitment to Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Boston. Mr. Connors, a founding partner and chairman emeritus of Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Inc., is the chairman of the 2010 Initiative for Catholic Education and the Campaign for Catholic Schools, a campaign to raise $90 million dollars to revitalize Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Boston. Mrs. Connors is co-chair of the advisory board of the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. “Addison Atanga is a fine young man whose challenges never get him down. The way he presses on with such grace and a sense of giving back should be an inspiration to us all,” Mr. Connors said. Mr. and Mrs. Connors are dedicated to ensuring that Catholic education is available and affordable to all and provides higher teaching and learning standards, increased enrollment and improved student achievement.
When asked how he felt about receiving the Seton Scholarship, Addison said: “I am very appreciative of this opportunity Mr. and Mrs. Connors have given me and excited to go to Washington D.C. with my family. I am also grateful to my school principal, Mrs. Cynthia Dunn-McNally, for encouraging me in this endeavor.”
Trinity Catholic Academy was the first school created by the 2010 Initiative and is governed by a Board of Trustees chaired by former Brockton Superintendent of School Manthala George, Jr.; Trinity has two campuses and over 500 students enrolled in preschool through grade 8.
